KWA Architects (Cambridge) Ltd have successfully obtained planning permission for phase 2 of development at the home of International and Olympic hopeful Dressage rider Lara Edwards. The permission from North East Lincolnshire Council was given following a unanymous decision to approve at the recent district council planning meeting after detailed construction programmes were agreed in order to minimise disruption to the local road infrastructure and village.
Whilst the site already benefits from an outdoor manège, unfortunately, this is not suitable to utilise all year around (i.e. in inclement weather or in the winter when it is dark in the mornings and evenings). Indeed, over the last year there have been several months where the outdoor manège has been frozen and unrideable, making it hard for Lara to train and complete at the top level. An indoor arena allows Lara to train all year around irrespective of the time of year, light levels or the weather. Having both an indoor arena and an outdoor manège will also allow Lara to vary the training regimes of the horses and train them in different environments to better prepare them for competitions.
Many ecological and biodiversity enhancements have been included in the proposals including an advanced drainage scheme which will protect the land and local watercourses from flooding.
The planning permission also includes change of use from agricultural to equestrian use on the land upon which the indoor arena will be erected and some paddock land surrounding the indoor arena.
We look forward to the imminent start on site and following the constantly improving career of one of our prestigious clients.
