The brief required a large outdoor arena, a facility from which the site does not currently benefit. Initially, the scheme related to a 55m x 55m arena, however, the decision was taken to reduce the size to 60m x 40m to allow for an adjacent outdoor sports pitch. The location of the arena was selected due to its close proximity to existing equine facilities on site including the indoor arena and because it is well screened from other areas of the site.
Despite the site having high archaeological potential, KWA gained planning permission for the development and appropriate work was carried out to satisfy the attached conditions to allow work to begin onsite. The development was completed in summer 2011.
